I now know what it’s like to have a grand daughter and to watch while her loving parents make the best decisions for them in regards to her. I stand back and keep telling myself that it is okay they are feeding her virtually all processed foods. The fact is most people eat processed foods without a thought so it isn’t just my kids that are doing it. We all have a lot to learn to better take care of our health and wellbeing. With the growing concerns of processed foods with GMO’s and other chemicals that we can’t even begin to pronounce being put in our foods, it is a growing problem. I have to remind myself that when I was a mom with little babies, I too fed my boys processed foods without a thought that it wasn’t good for us. The information wasn’t out in the media years ago as it is now about the dangers of processed foods. Although by watching television we are made to believe that all these foods that are killing us with the ingredients they make the food with, are totally okay to eat. In fact it is healthy for us to eat it or so the media says. With this kind of media, it is no wonder parents and the millions of other people these days don’t think much of how they are contributing to the sickness of our little ones or loved ones. It is so important to educate one another about these concerns. It is getting harder to play witness to the foods our loved ones are eating if we are eating healthy. All I can do as a grandma to this precious little one is to play an advocate as much as possible without making the parents mad at me which seems to be easy to do at times because of my push to educate them as well as expressing my concerns. I have to remember it is their life but still I am pushed to say something sometimes. At times they get on the defensive, other times my son tells me they got it handled. What I can do in the meantime is to feed my granddaughter healthy foods when she is around me. Although the last time I babysat, I was told only to feed her milk and pedi-alite because she had a bad cough. Dairy isn’t a healthy option when anyone is suffering from any ear, nose and throat malady. My intuition said that what she needed was some yummy green juice. Vegetables would be good for her. In fact the last time I fed her green juice, she couldn’t get enough of it. She wanted more. It was easy this day to abide by her parents wishes because I didn’t have any juice on me. I have to wonder though, would I have gone ahead and given it to her anyway if I happened to have it? The main thing is to honor what our kids do for their kids even though it is hard to watch (unless of course, it is extreme behavior that needs to be talked about). I can continue to eat healthy myself and to be an example. (Lord knows I wasn’t much of an example while raising my boys but I did the best I knew how at the time) I can also continue to give it to my angels, her angels and continue to pray that they will get more health conscious for themselves as well as their little one. I still remain optimistic that it will shift and they will start eating better. What do you do about your health? Do you give it a second thought? If you have a similar concern, I would love to hear from you! Please comment below! I appreciate it! Much Love to You!!
