Sometimes giving yourself permission to do nothing but to stare into space and just be in the moment is the best prescription we can prescribe for ourselves. Often times though, we don’t do this. We tend to think, “After I get this done, or maybe tomorrow”, or our favorite television show comes on so we watch that instead. We wonder how come we feel tired, stressed out, or bored with life. Our society pushes us to do this, be that, take this pill, be this way. There are so many things we can do instead of sitting quietly staring out the window allowing ourselves to daydream. Besides we live in a culture that says busy is good. To be busy is to get things accomplished or so the experts say. All signs point to overall fulfillment and satisfaction when we allow ourselves to do nothing, sitting back and listening to the quiet, and day dreaming. Daydreaming is very healthy for us and in fact we tend to get more done in the long run by allowing ourselves this down time to enjoy sitting quietly. It has been proven that by allowing ourselves to daydream we are often times happier in our lives. We are filled with a sense of fulfillment. Let’s allow ourselves to daydream today. Let’s take a 10 minute break from whatever we are doing and stare out the window and dream. It is healthy and refreshing. Here are a few tricks to stay focused when it comes to daydreaming. Take some deep breaths, letting everything you are thinking and worrying about fall away. Tune into your breath, feeling your body relaxing. Become aware of any stickin’ thinkin’ you may be experiencing such as worrying over a situation, a person or problem that hasn’t yet to be solved. Bring your attention to the present moment continuing to breathe deep. As you slow down your thinking, relax your body, then you are able to dream of good things. If this is a challenge for you, send yourself to the beach or the mountains, wherever your paradise is. See your paradise in your mind. Now dream of this and let your thoughts come and go. This only takes a few minutes and it empowers, and gives us the energy needed to get those tasks done. What do you do to take time out for daydreaming? Do you allow yourself that time out to just do nothing? I would love to hear how you take care of yourself in order to feel fulfilled. Let’s daydream today!
